Nora Mercer and audio engineer Nick Reyes host Field Static, an independent podcast about alleged hauntings. Producer Tess Danner coordinates the work from home base; forensic audio specialist Dr. Mara Velez is called in when a recording needs a hard technical read.
The team researches the people and places behind a report, records a baseline, tests what they hear, and keeps the original files intact. They look for the ordinary explanation first. If it holds, they say so. If it doesn't, they resist filling the gap with a better story.

Research the location and document ordinary sound: rooms, machinery, traffic, radios, building movement, and the limits of the gear.

Try to repeat it.
Compare original files, recorder timing, and separate devices. Ask whether a mundane source can reproduce the result.

Leave room for unknown.
Preserve the evidence, name its limitations, and publish the conclusion the tests support—even when that conclusion is incomplete.

Nick Reyes
Nora’s cohost, field producer, and audio engineer. Nick manages the recorders, synchronization, and sound checks, looking for the pattern before he names it.
Tess Danner
The production and operations lead. Tess arranges access, checks releases and scripts, monitors remote sessions, and keeps the original recordings accounted for.
Dr. Mara Velez
A forensic audio specialist and researcher. Mara examines suspicious recordings without assuming that an unexplained sound proves a supernatural cause.

These labels describe the strength of the evidence, not how frightening a story sounds. “Unresolved” is a complete answer when the evidence stops there. A sound that repeats and one that responds to a test are different observations.
