Dead Air

Some recordings should stay silent.

Nora Mercer has spent years asking what a ghost story can actually prove. Then a voice she knows appears in a recording where it should not exist.

The premise

What can a recording prove when it starts to answer?

With audio engineer Nick Reyes, Nora hosts Field Static, a paranormal podcast that investigates alleged hauntings. They interview witnesses, examine records, test sounds, and look for the ordinary explanation first.

Most cases collapse under scrutiny. Then a fragment of audio turns up where it should not exist, carrying a voice Nora knows better than anyone: her own. The investigation forces her to consider whether she has been documenting a haunting—or teaching something how to speak.

Dead Air opens The Night Signal Trilogy, three interconnected psychological thrillers about paranormal phenomena, human perception, and the limits of evidence.
